Emprevo, a digital communication platform, has been designed and developed by experienced aged care operators, Sapphire Care/Bluecross, who despite using the latest rostering and workforce management technology, discovered they did not address the key pain points for our industry:
• Filling shifts quickly and at lowest cost.
• Reducing agency costs.
• Reducing telco costs.
• Reducing recruitment cost and retention of staff.
ACSA is partnering with Emprevo to help their members address these key pain points. To date, outcomes have been outstanding:
• Over 90% of shifts are filled within minutes
• Telco costs are decreased by around 90%
• Agency costs are cut from between 50-75%
• Shift managers can save up to 1 day per week.
• Staff turnover reduced by over 50%
BlueCross Community and Residential Services has recently implemented the Emprevo application across 23 Residences. Before Emprevo, we used a well-known roster system with SMS messaging and around 50% of vacant shifts were filled by internal staff. Now after using Emprevo for 3 months, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive with up to 95% of our vacant sifts being filled by internal staff.
The application is easy to use, provides instant notification and allows staff to manage their preferences and work across sites more easily. Use of the application has also made communication and rostering more efficient saving Managers time. Implementation of Emprevo has been a major initiative that has assisted in the reduction of agency use across the organisation.

With the initial introduction of Emprevo 4 weeks ago staff were very hesitant as they perceived a possible threat to their income and livelihood.
Staff depend on systems that allow them to plan their work life and support their lifestyle. Years of constant text messaging and phone calls, at times almost begging them to work, gave staff reassurance that they are always needed, however, also impacted greatly on their life outside of work hours.
With a focus on supporting staff in a fair and equitable way, reducing the constant interruption on days off, providing them with control over their shifts and how and when they communicate with their employer, Emprevo was introduced.
Our tech savvy, and not so tech savvy, staff embraced it with shifts being quickly snapped up. Staff expressing concern over “not wanting to miss out” and rules around timeliness of posting shifts and phone access has to be implemented. Coupled with some robust systems to ensure fairness, in particular around planned leave, Emprevo has been a great success.
I am comforted that our staff now have improved work life balance, are confident with the process around picking up a vacant shifts and our Admin staff and after hours Nurses have increased time for other tasks and to deliver care to our residents. I would recommend Emprevo to other organisations.
